DJ Jigüe & Guampara Music Experience

The Ultimate Culture Experience in Havana for Cuban music and culture lovers!

This experience takes place inside a colonial-style home in the heart of Centro Habana, a space shaped as much by time as by the artists who now fill it with music, visual art, and creative energy. Guampara Music has transformed this house into a working cultural hub where collaboration happens naturally throughout the day.

You’ll be welcomed into Guampara Music, the independent label and platform founded by DJ Jigüe. The project was created to support a new generation of Cuban artists working outside traditional structures, while staying deeply connected to Afro-Cuban roots and the realities of contemporary life on the island.

Jigüe’s work brings together different layers of Cuban music in a way that feels both grounded and current, drawing from traditional rhythms, hip hop, electronic production, and broader Afro-diasporic influences. What you experience here is not arranged for visitors. It’s an honest look into a creative space that is actively evolving.

The day begins with a vinyl listening session and conversation led by Jigüe himself. Sitting within this environment, surrounded by records, instruments, and artwork, you start to hear how Cuban music connects across generations. The session unfolds naturally, often becoming a dialogue shaped by questions, stories, and shared curiosity.

From there, the experience opens up. You can join a salsa class or spend time working with musicians on a specific instrument. Because everything takes place within the same space, the transition from listening to participating feels fluid and unforced.

Lunch is prepared and shared in the home, featuring a home-cooked Afro-Caribbean Cuban meal. It’s a moment to slow down, sit together, and experience the space in a different way, not as a visitor passing through, but as someone welcomed into it.

What defines this experience is the environment itself. Guámpara is not a formal institution, but a creative project built from within the community, where music, conversation, and daily life intersect. It offers a perspective on Havana that is difficult to access otherwise, rooted in real relationships and ongoing artistic work.

For many of our travelers, this becomes one of the most memorable parts of their time in Cuba.

Who is DJ Jigüe and Guampara Music?

DJ Jigüe is a producer, DJ, and cultural curator who has become one of the central figures in Cuba’s independent music movement. His work focuses on connecting Afro-Cuban traditions with contemporary sounds, often blending folkloric rhythms with hip hop, electronic music, and experimental production. Beyond performing, he has played a key role in creating space for artists who operate outside of Cuba’s more traditional music industry structures.

Guampara Music, the project he founded, is more than a record label. It functions as a platform for collaboration, documentation, and creative exchange. Based in Centro Habana, Guampara supports emerging and established artists who are pushing Cuban music forward while staying rooted in its African heritage. The space itself reflects that mission, part studio, part gathering place, part cultural lab, where musicians, visual artists, and producers come together to develop new work.

Through initiatives like recording sessions, workshops, and international collaborations, Guámpara has become an important bridge between Cuba’s local music scene and the wider global conversation around Afro-diasporic music.
